Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

I’m gonna be honest, I have no idea how I came across this book. It might be because I started this series when I was like 9 but who knows? All I know is this book series was and still is one of my favorites. Also, Jessica Day George is an amazing author, definitely check out her other series! (My favorite is Dragon Slippers.)

“The Castle would never let anything bad happen to you. You could jump out one of these windows and the Castle would probably conjure up a hundred feather beds to break your fall.” “Don’t test that!” ― Jessica Day George, Tuesdays at the Castle

Tuesdays at the Castle is the first book in the Castle Glower series and centers around the Glower Royal Family and of course the Castle. The book is told from the point of view of Princess Cecilia, who goes by Celie. Celie has a special connection with the Castle and spends her days exploring the new rooms attempting to create an atlas (which I would love to see) of the everchanging Castle Glower. The characters are realistic, especially the Glower sibling dynamic, and Jessica Day George does a great job of showing that you can be brave despite being scared. The plot centers around never giving up and shows Celie continue on despite the stressful situations she finds herself in.

The only complaint I have would be the pacing. Certain events feel a bit dragged out and the end seems a bit rushed but that makes up for itself by the fact that there are 4 other books in the series. (All just as good. My favorite is the last book, Saturdays at Sea.)

This book is targeted at middle schoolers and certainly has that feel but I think anyone could enjoy this series. I highly recommend it and all of Jessica’s books. Now back to wishing I lived in Castle Glower…or just any castle lol.
